My Unrevealed Sewing Journey with my DAD💝
Welcome to my Blog with my whole Heart💝💝 Today, I am going to share a secret journey that I've never shared with anyone, not even my close friends.
My Sewing Journey with my DAD💝

👸 Before you learn anything from me, understand my Journey—it will give you motivation and confidence. I’ll take you back at least 38 years. My sewing journey started before my birth without anybody’s notice. Many think they know my story, but truly said NO. They know very little. Today, as the Founder of Online Sewing Academy, a well-settled Coach, everything began with my dad. I’m happy to remember him here as a Daughter, a woman Entrepreneur, a Mentor, etc.
👩 In his school days, my dad had an elder friend with a tailoring shop in Kanyakumari. Despite excelling in studies, he developed a love for Sewing. On weekly holidays, he spent time at his friend’s shop. When his friend left for lunch, my dad would remove stitches in a newly made shirt, see how it was stitched, and stitch it back before his friend returned.
👩 Seeing his interest, his friend taught him to sew shirts to save wages. However, he never taught him to cut dresses. Despite many requests, his friend, like many skilled individuals, wasn’t keen on passing the skill to anyone outside the family. Thus, we lost treasures and medicines.
👩 After completing his ITI Motor Mechanism with distinction, he migrated to Chennai with his elder brother’s help. His passion for sewing never waned. When I was 18 months old, he enrolled in a tailoring institute, realizing his long-term dream. A brand-new Sewing Machine, the Usha Brown table Pedal Machine, entered our home. Later, a Merritt Sewing machine joined.
👩 Whenever our father wasn’t home, my brother and I sat at the machines, pedalling as though riding bikes. When he returned, he’d find out by seeing broken needles. He taught us never to pedal the machine without fabric. If we had to do so while oiling, he lifted the foot and pedalled. I remember those days every time I give this instruction to my students.
👩 Still more to share. I’ll stop here and continue on Thursday. Tomorrow, we’ll discuss a DON’T to learn Sewing Smarter. Nobody knows where their roots are tied up and when they emerge. I may be a graduate in Economics, but a seed was sown early for me to be a Sewer, later nourishing as a Trainer too…
Today's Lessons:
- Never run the machine without fabric or paper.
- If you must, lift up the foot. It will save needles from breaking and the foot from damage. A broken needle may hurt you, and even the eyes may be injured badly.
- Love something, try as much as you can, and one day you can master it. Never give up.
- If you love and master a skill, you indirectly pass it to the next generation.
- If you have to teach a skill, teach fully. Never hide secrets. They may become the best and remember you as their GURU, earning you blessings and pride. I’ll share an interesting fact on this in the upcoming days. You will love it.
