भारत में ज़्यादातर tailors अभी भी सिर्फ scissors use करते हैं। लेकिन professional sewists जानते हैं कि rotary cutter और self-healing mat से आप न सिर्फ तेजी से काट सकते हो, बल्कि ज़्यादा accurately काट सकते हो। यह session में आप सीखोगे कि fabric cutting को कैसे professional level पर ले जाते हैं।

Scissors vs Rotary Cutter: क्या फर्क है?

बहुत से beginners सोचते हैं कि यह सिर्फ speed का सवाल है। लेकिन असल में, rotary cutter और scissors दोनों completely different tools हैं, और दोनों का अपना-अपना use है।

Ideal measurement ruler: 18-24 inches long, transparent, grid lines के साथ, non-slip backing। Fabric cutting के लिए dedicated ruler रखो (pattern measuring के लिए अलग)।

Complete Fabric Cutting Workflow

Step 1: Fabric Preparation (यह सबसे Important है)

अधिकांश beginners यहीं गलती करते हैं। Fabric को straight करना बहुत ज़रूरी है, नहीं तो patterns correctly cut नहीं होंगे।

Proper fabric preparation:

  • • Wash करो: अगर cotton है तो हल्का wash कर लो (fabric में shrinkage हो सकती है)
  • • Dry करो: Completely dry होना चाहिए, नहीं तो mat खराब हो जाता है
  • • Iron करो: सभी wrinkles iron कर दो। Wrinkled fabric से cutting में +/- 1/4 inch error आ सकती है
  • • Lay out करो: Mat पर बिल्कुल flat lay करो। कोई fold या puckering नहीं

Step 2: Align Your Fabric

Mat के grid lines को use करो। Fabric का edge mat के edge के साथ perfectly aligned होना चाहिए। अगर fabric slightly tilted है, तो पूरे pieces जाएंगे।

Step 3: Ruler Placement और Cutting

Technique:

  • 1. Ruler को अपने exact cutting line पर रखो
  • 2. One hand से ruler के edge को firmly press करो (नहीं तो slip हो जाएगा)
  • 3. Rotary cutter को ruler के against roll करो — smooth, consistent pressure
  • 4. एक motion में काटो, बार-बार नहीं — बार-बार cutting से fabric fray हो जाता है

सबसे common mistake: Ruler को properly press नहीं करना। नतीजा: slightly tilted cuts जो garment को uneven बनाते हैं।

Step 4: Multiple Layers काटना

Rotary cutter की सबसे बड़ी advantage है कि 3-4 layers एक साथ काट सकते हो। लेकिन carefully करना पड़ता है।

Best practice: Same type का fabric layer करो (thin layer के ऊपर thick नहीं, क्योंकि blade का pressure uneven होगा)। 4 से ज़्यादा layers मत करो — blade accuracy खो जाती है।

Heavy use में 3-6 months। Light use में 1+ year। जब cutting में ज़ोर लगाना पड़े, तब blade change कर दो।
