Paper Scissors: One Simple Rule to Protect Your Blades

One moment using your quality fabric scissors on paper. Three cuts later, they're dull. They drag through silk instead of sliding. They're ruined. This tragedy is completely preventable with one simple rule: separate scissors.
Why It Matters
Paper is abrasive. Its fibers embed in scissors blades and dull them. One sheet doesn't seem like much, but five cuts on paper destroy blade sharpness. Fabric scissors that were gliding smoothly now drag and snag.
The Solution
Buy cheap paper scissors for pattern cutting. Keep fabric scissors exclusively for fabric. Label them. Store them separately. That's all you need. Paper scissors cost very little. Ruining expensive fabric scissors costs far more.
Finding Paper Scissors
Any general scissors work for paper. Keep them visible so anyone using them knows they're paper-only. Many people keep them in a different location than fabric scissors to prevent accidents.
