Steps to Learn a Garment in a Professional way

Steps to Learn a Garment in a Professional way I am going to share the proper steps to be followed to learn any garment and Stitch like an Expert in the category of Dos & Don’t. Anyone who follows these 5 steps can develop her/himself as an expert in a very short period. 💙 I welcome you to my Blog with my whole Heart💝 To Stitch like an Expert, Follow these 5 steps. Step No. 1 💙  (a) Take the body measurement of the person for whom you make the dress. Not readymade measurements, customized measurements. Measurements are the root of doing any outfit. If even an inch is wrong, the total dress may get wasted and may not be eligible for wearing. So learn to take proper measurements. 💙 (b) Should make some sketches to record and to refer to in future. Most of the women in the previous generation would have gone to tailoring institutes. But the reason for them not being able to recall what they have learned is that they didn’t record what they went through. 💙 (c) I have seen many people having project notebooks with the miniatures of all the garments they learned. But truly said it is not needed at all. My sister went to a sewing class for more than a year and has all the miniature books, but not able to start a business or stitch up to the level. I learned practically from qualified masters and was able to run the sewing business successfully for more than 15 years. 💙 (d) Should have successful formulas to derive calculations for that particular size. Every tailor has his/her own formulas to construct a garment. The one who knows the accurate, perfect formulas would be successful in the field. Those who don’t know or have will become a failed product. Instead of running through free stuff better learn from an expert and start shining as soon as possible. My Dad’s ways of using Leftover Fabrics Step No. 2 💙 (a) Before starting cutting the fabric should make some drawings in your record notebook. No need to practice on Pattern Sheets or Newspapers. Because those cannot be maintained for a long time. And remember, Masters in the boutique don’t use papers. They just cut on fabric directly but since you are a beginner, to avoid wasting the fabric you can do it in your notebook which will help you to recall even after many years. 💙 (b) Should know about the fabrics you have to use to make that garment. Because fabric knowledge is a must to make any garment pleasant and comfortable. Also, you should know the exact fabric consumption otherwise it will lead to a waste of money. I have seen people who are just 5 feet in height buy 3 meters of fabric to make a normal kurti just because the shopkeeper said they need it since they are XXL in size. Step No. 3 💙 (a) Spreading the fabric according to the actual requirement. Here we have to analyze the Print, the designs, and motives and check whether they are facing upwards, downwards, or horizontally. Maybe in the future, we will see elaborately about fabrics. All my students are well aware of it. 💙 (b) Mark the fabric as per the drafting you have made in your records. Then Cut the fabric by applying the calculations been made already. Check twice before cutting. Since you made everything ready cutting part will take less time. 💙 (c) Additionally, you should always save some fabric out of any dress you make. Even a quarter meter you save can help you to make a wonderful patch, piping in your next outfit, and can convert a normal dress to a Designer suit. Just by adding a small contrast bit to the dress, you can earn a good amount of charges whether on selling or stitching. Step No. 4 💙 Stitching the fabric you cut, check the measurements, and execute the designs you have decided to make by proper order. If you follow the order, stitching will consume very less time. And don’t forget to adopt smart finishing or stitching techniques from your Coach because finishing plays a vital role in the final look of the garment. Neat Finishing will give you enough satisfaction and make the customer repeat again and again to you. 💙 I remember an incident with you. Once I was admiring the finishing of a blouse given by a customer as a measurement blouse for her new blouse. I called my tailor and told her “see the finishing. excellent right?” She came near and turned the blouse and showed the inner side where are label was been attached. Then she said, “See the label, it was made in our boutique a few months back”. Many of many our customers loved our boutique not only for fitting but also for finishing. Step No. 5 💙 The most important step is having some expert clear your fitting issues, answer your queries, share her/his experience to better your work, and suggest buying fabrics related to your garment and designs you wish to make. Because women’s body is different from one another so common ideas and solutions won’t work. That’s why we are not happy with ready-made garments available in the market and outfits made by tailors. 💙Just by learning cutting and stitching, you can never create wonders. Unless you have someone to clear your personalized fitting issues you will always be a beginner. We always had teachers for everything we wished to learn, in the middle when social media came into existence we forgot the secret of excellence. Most of the social media videos include only the 4th & 5th steps (Cutting & Stitching) so that nobody learns like a professional or stitches like an expert. Today’s Lessons: Learn to take proper Body Measurements Remember to register everything in a systematic way Get to know the calculation method using successful formulas for handing

My Unrevealed Sewing Journey with my DAD💝

My Unrevealed Sewing Journey with my DAD💝 Welcome to my Blog with my whole Heart💝💝 Today, I am going to share a secret journey that I’ve never shared with anyone, not even my close friends. My Sewing Journey with my DAD💝 👸 Before you learn anything from me, understand my Journey—it will give you motivation and confidence. I’ll take you back at least 38 years. My sewing journey started before my birth without anybody’s notice. Many think they know my story, but truly said NO. They know very little. Today, as the Founder of Online Sewing Academy, a well-settled Coach, everything began with my dad. I’m happy to remember him here as a Daughter, a woman Entrepreneur, a Mentor, etc. 👩 In his school days, my dad had an elder friend with a tailoring shop in Kanyakumari. Despite excelling in studies, he developed a love for Sewing. On weekly holidays, he spent time at his friend’s shop. When his friend left for lunch, my dad would remove stitches in a newly made shirt, see how it was stitched, and stitch it back before his friend returned. 👩 Seeing his interest, his friend taught him to sew shirts to save wages. However, he never taught him to cut dresses. Despite many requests, his friend, like many skilled individuals, wasn’t keen on passing the skill to anyone outside the family. Thus, we lost treasures and medicines. 👩 After completing his ITI Motor Mechanism with distinction, he migrated to Chennai with his elder brother’s help. His passion for sewing never waned. When I was 18 months old, he enrolled in a tailoring institute, realizing his long-term dream. A brand-new Sewing Machine, the Usha Brown table Pedal Machine, entered our home. Later, a Merritt Sewing machine joined. 👩 Whenever our father wasn’t home, my brother and I sat at the machines, pedalling as though riding bikes. When he returned, he’d find out by seeing broken needles. He taught us never to pedal the machine without fabric. If we had to do so while oiling, he lifted the foot and pedalled. I remember those days every time I give this instruction to my students. 👩 Still more to share. I’ll stop here and continue on Thursday. Tomorrow, we’ll discuss a DON’T to learn Sewing Smarter. Nobody knows where their roots are tied up and when they emerge. I may be a graduate in Economics, but a seed was sown early for me to be a Sewer, later nourishing as a Trainer too… Today’s Lessons: Never run the machine without fabric or paper. If you must, lift up the foot. It will save needles from breaking and the foot from damage. A broken needle may hurt you, and even the eyes may be injured badly. Love something, try as much as you can, and one day you can master it. Never give up. If you love and master a skill, you indirectly pass it to the next generation. If you have to teach a skill, teach fully. Never hide secrets. They may become the best and remember you as their GURU, earning you blessings and pride. I’ll share an interesting fact on this in the upcoming days. You will love it.

Can I learn Sewing from YouTube Videos?

Can I learn Sewing from YouTube Videos? I warmly welcome you to my blog with my whole heart💝. Today, I am eager to share a secret that can expedite and enhance your sewing skills, falling under the category of Do’s & Don’ts. Can I learn Sewing from YouTube Videos? 👉 Certainly, you can. YouTube offers a plethora of designs not found elsewhere. However, this applies more to advanced learners rather than beginners or aspiring professionals. Youtubers dedicate significant effort to entertain and educate, yet the educational system on Sewing is often incomplete. Allow me to elaborate on some limitations inherent in learning through social media. Challenge No. 1 👉 To comprehensively learn garment creation, substantial teaching time (1 to 3 hours) is necessary, a practice followed in our Academy. Unfortunately, most YouTube users prefer shorter videos for more views and subscribers, compromising the quality of education. Challenge No. 2 👉 YouTube dresses are tailored for the creator, not for diverse viewer sizes. Crafting for various sizes is intricate, even for experienced tailors dealing with customized sewing. Learning from assumptions proves challenging. Challenge No. 3 👉 While expert YouTubers produce commendable results, the secrets to perfect outfits are seldom revealed for free. Many video creators merely replicate content from top channels, resulting in a flood of similar content across different platforms. Challenge No. 4 👉 The trend towards short videos and reels poses difficulties for video makers striving to maintain quality. This compromise may lead to future content resembling slideshows, offering minimal educational value. Challenge No. 5 👉 Following a single Guru or Coach in the budding stage is crucial for mastering a particular art. However, social media presents a multitude of conflicting methods, causing confusion and hindering effective learning. Challenge No. 6 👉 After learning, seeking clarification or addressing fitting issues becomes challenging on platforms like YouTube. The absence of personalized guidance may leave learners with unanswered queries. Challenge No. 7 👉 Many YouTube creators lack professionalism, leading to potential disappointment for learners who fail to achieve desired results. This may result in wasted time and a lost opportunity for skill development. Solutions & Today’s Lessons 💖 Refer to quality YouTube channels at an advanced level to explore more patterns, but focus on fundamental learning from experts who provide step-by-step guidance. 💖 Avoid wasting time scrolling aimlessly. Invest in learning from an expert to produce remarkable results, eventually monetizing your skills. 💖 Join a community to gain knowledge from shared experiences and mistakes, especially if you plan to venture into business. Learn from professionals, not imitators. 💖 Recognize that free resources have limitations, and valuing others’ knowledge is essential for achieving recognition in your output. 💖 Share your opinions in the comments box. These insights are based on years of experience and proven techniques. Enjoy learning, happy sewing, keep rocking, and keep moving forward. Stay tuned for the continuation of My Unrevealed Sewing journey with my DAD.

My Dad’s ways of using Leftover Fabrics

My Dad’s ways of using Leftover Fabrics My Sewing Journey with my DAD 💝 Today, I am excited to share the captivating ways my father ingeniously repurposed leftover fabrics during my childhood. Each word carries a mix of emotions—tears and smiles—as I express my gratitude to readers for allowing me to reflect on his extraordinary works. I hope this journey sparks numerous ideas for making the most of remaining cloth bits. A heartfelt welcome to my blog! In my recent post, I shared the initial part of my sewing journey with my dad. During my early school days, he skilfully stitched all our uniforms alongside managing his business. Despite his insistence, my mom declined to learn sewing from him due to his strict stance on studies, particularly mathematics. His belief in the transformative power of education made me a super student, excelling in academics, sports, and stage competitions. Yet, his expectations always pushed me to strive for more. Returning to the main theme, the surplus fabrics from his dressmaking ventures became a treasure trove in our home. We never purchased pillows; instead, all in our home were crafted from pure cotton using these leftover fabrics. His creativity extended to a remarkable five-feet sofa bed, undetectable as made from remnants. He even brought handmade pillows to my home. Additionally, he enjoyed crafting pillow covers, sofa covers, and screens by seamlessly joining cloth bits. I fondly remember the dusters for school, tiny cushions for my nephews’ cycle carriers, and stool cushions for our boutique’s tailors—all crafted by him to ease their long hours of stitching. Raincoats made from thick polythene covers, numerous cloth carry bags, and room curtains adorned with multiple attachments showcased his diverse skills. The mix-and-match pillow covers he presented to others remain etched in the memories of close friends and family. Financial struggles spurred his resourcefulness. Unable to afford dresses, he utilized cloth bits to create skirts for me. Surprisingly, these became my favorite printed skirts, superior even to my brother’s shirts crafted from at least three different fabrics. His unique shirt designs—collar, sleeves, and body parts each from distinct fabrics—became a subject of amusement for many, yet he embraced their charm. Not limited to family, he extended his creativity to crafting 3/4 pants, hats, and beautiful baby nappies with intricate piping. Inspired by an online set, he replicated various items—baby towels, kerchiefs, lunch towels, sewing machine covers, grinder covers, bed covers, and more. His hands stitched these practical items, predating the current DIY trend on social media. Reflecting on his passion, I can envision the love he poured into honing this skill and how he saved money for our family through his creations. He shared his love through the art of sewing, making it a heart-touching aspect of his persona. There’s much more to share about his profound impact on my sewing journey, and I look forward to exploring it in upcoming blogs. I hope this narrative kindles your interest and fosters a newfound appreciation for the art of sewing. Your engagement and thoughts are always welcome. Today’s Lessons: Embrace creativity; it adds color, meaning, and purpose to life, regardless of age. Sewing not only trims your tailoring bills but also adorns your home, bringing joy to many faces. Sewing knows no limitations; you can explore a myriad of possibilities. A handmade gift crafted through sewing holds more value than anything purchased from outside. Even when jobs or businesses falter, your sewing skills remain a valuable asset. The cost of leftover fabric contributes to the overall fabric price; utilize every bit wisely. Embracing leftover fabrics can significantly reduce plastic usage, minimizing environmental waste. Products like carry bags and pouches made from fabrics are reusable, washable, user-friendly, and skin-friendly, contributing to a sustainable lifestyle. Self-help groups and individuals lacking the investment for a business can collect leftover fabrics from nearby tailoring shops, producing excellent reusable products at no cost. Sewing skills, with their numerous advantages, stand as a fundamental self-help skill. It’s essential to pass on this skill to the next generation, even if they are destined to be India’s first citizens.
