After an 8-year career break, I don't know where to begin again. Is sewing a realistic restart?

Swetha Ramesh asks

A question we hear often
I worked before marriage and left my job after my daughter was born. She is 8 now, and I don't feel ready to go back to the same corporate routine. I have always enjoyed clothes and sewing, so I am wondering whether I can build something around that instead.

ONSA's Answer

Eight years is a long gap, and it's completely fair that going back to the exact same corporate routine doesn't feel right anymore — a lot changes in you during that time, not just in the job market. Sewing is a genuinely reasonable way back in because it doesn't ask you to make one enormous decision on day one; you can rebuild the skill quietly first and only later decide whether it's personal orders, freelance work, a small business, or further study. Try not to measure your pace against people who never stopped working — that comparison isn't fair to where you're actually starting from. Focus on the next small, buildable step from exactly where you are.
