I really want to learn but I keep hesitating to pay for anything online — a course, a tutor, doesn't matter what. I don't know how to tell a genuine one from something that just looks good on the surface.

That hesitation is a fair one to have, Radhika, and it's worth trusting rather than pushing past. A few things are genuinely useful to check before paying anyone for an online course: can you see reviews you can verify independently, not just testimonials placed on their own website; is there a real person willing to talk to you before you pay, and how do they answer your questions in that conversation; and does their track record — years running, number of students, any outside recognition — hold up when you look for it yourself instead of just taking their word for it. Ask for a free call before committing anything. How that conversation goes usually tells you more than any page ever could.
